Jon has found rhizomycelial chytrids (Nowakowskiella sp.?) in standing-decaying leaf blades of smooth cordgrass (Spartina alterniflora) and other marshgrasses in both high- and low-salinity marshes of Sapelo Island and vicinity. On the left below is a chytrid sporangium that had just begun to release zoospores into a vesicle at the tip of a discharge tube. On the right is a posteriorly uniflagellate zoospore to the upper right of an empty sporangium.
